We are an Army
Sunny days, perfect weather and beautiful beaches. That’s San Diego for you! But aside from its picturesque landscapes, warm climate and laid-back ambiance it is also a military haven, housing many of our nation’s military branches all in one dynamic place. The U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corps all call San Diego their base.
One branch in addition to the ones before is the U.S. Navy, home of one of the most elite groups of military servicemen, the Navy Seals. Before each specific assignment Navy Seals are given their equipment. Each item they have with them is chosen for a specific reason – to protect themselves, fight the enemy, win the battle, survive, and return safely. Every aspect of their equipment is of the best quality and must be in perfect working order or condition. Because all this must be carried with them on their body, they assemble their camouflage uniform with precision and great thought. They know they can’t go into battle safely or effectively if they are missing something important or carrying extra baggage. Everything they take with them is designed to facilitate and anticipate their every need. By the time they are on a mission they are more than ready.
As prayer warriors, they must do the same. God doesn’t want us carrying anything that is unnecessary because it will weigh us down and hinder what He has called us to do. And we must not go to battle without the things we need to win. Our battle is spiritual, and what
we accomplish in the spirit realm is as important as what the highly trained, prepared, and equipped soldier does in the physical. We must know our weapons and be highly skilled in using them. But first we must put on the armor God has given us to stand strong against the
enemy
Ephesians 6:10-14 (NLT)
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
Let’s seek the Lord today not neglecting the armor of God, but to consider each piece and its purpose. We fight not against flesh and blood, but we must see the spiritual fight we are in. Believing God for the impossible, know that although we have a very real enemy we have an even more powerful God that has already given us the victory. We are an Army!
